The CYO Girls’ and Boys’ Camp and Camp Ozanam are operated by the Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Detroit. The CYO Camps and Camp Ozanam are located in Port Sanilac, Michigan (approxi¬mately 30 miles north of Port Huron), and offer a traditional camping program for youth, ages 7 – 16.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who possess a genuine love for children and interest in working with children in a camp setting. Salaries are for the camp season (including one-week of paid staff training). In addition, room and board are furnished.

Counselors:
Responsible for the leadership and guidance of eight to eighteen campers. Counselors work in pairs, assisting the campers in the planning and execution of their daily schedules. Must be energetic and outgoing, capable of motivating children and working in a team setting.

Minimum age: 18 yrs.
Salary: $240 a week plus room and board

Activity Specialists:
Responsible for planning and implementing a specialty area program. Specialists instruct cabin groups and counsel staff, supervises free time activities, and assist in the planning and supervision of evening programs. Positions available for Archery, Crafts, Nature Specialists, Ministry, and Waterfront Instructors (W.S.I./Lifesaving Certification required).

Minimum age: 18 yrs. (preferred at least 19 years old)
Salary: $200 a week plus room and board

Kitchen Preps:
Primarily responsible for set-up, clean-up and general food service at each meal. K.P.’s will have the opportunity to work with cabin groups and activity specialists to experience all facets of camp life.

Minimum age: 17 yrs.
Salary: $175 a week plus room and board

TEAM LEADERS:
Responsible for planning, administration and leadership of the unit, to include training, guidance, supervision and evaluation of the staff. Unit Leaders are present regularly throughout the camp day to provide support to the staff and replace staff as needed. They prepare and conduct unit meetings during pre-camp and regularly throughout the summer. CYO is currently looking for a Kitchen Unit Leader and Counselor Unit Leader for both camps.

Preferred age: 19 years old
Salary: $310 a week plus room and board

Lead Counselor:
Responsible for assisting the Camp Director in the administration of camp, to include involvement in pre-camp planning, daily camp operations, and post-season evaluation. Direct and administer the camp in the absence of the Camp Director. Concurrently serves as a Team Leader.

Preferred age: 21 years old
Salary: $600 a week plus room and board.

HEALTH OFFICER:
Responsible for the treatment and evaluation of any health conditions that arise during camp for both staff and campers. This includes dispensing prescription medications, diagnosing minor conditions, evaluating incidents and situations that may require outside medical attention, keeping a daily log of all activity in the health office, complying with all ACA standards and Michigan laws and regulations regarding summer camps, and the upkeep and supply of first aid kits.

Preferred age: 21 years old
Salary: $300 a week plus room and board.

CAMP DATES:

Camp opens for training on Sunday, June 21, 2020
Camp closes on Saturday, August 8, 2020
Staff should be available for the duration of this period.

PRE-CAMP TRAINING:

Pre-camp training for all staff occurs from Sunday, June 21 to Saturday, June 27 with specialty training offered Sunday, June 28 to Thursday, July 2. This is to assist staff with learning new skills which will be necessary; to familiarize staff with camp policies and procedures and to enable staff to become acquaint¬ed with one another.

TIME OFF:

CYO Camp provides regular periods of time off during which the staff member is free of assigned duties and may leave camp grounds. Each staff member is given one day off and one night off each week. Additionally, breaks are possible throughout each day as the cabin schedules permit. (Emergency leaves may be granted when necessary.)

TO LET YOU KNOW IN ADVANCE: We feel it is in the best interest of our campers to establish the following rules:

  1. Smoking is not permitted in front of the campers, and is restricted to the staff house. New laws regarding tobacco sales and use state you must be 21 to purchase or use tobacco products including vaping products. Staff members under the age of 21 are expected to abide by Michigan State Law regarding smoking.
  2. No drinking or possession of alcoholic beverages on camp premises is allowed. Staff members under 21 are expected to abide by the Michigan State Law concerning alcoholic beverages at all times. Intoxication is not permitted on camp premises.
  3. Possession and/or use of drugs by any staff member are prohibited.
  4. A background check through the State of Michigan will be done on all camp staff.
  5. During the 7 week period, when on and off the camp premises, you are expected to live a Christian life style and uphold the rules of the CYO Camps.

Since it is your lifestyle that may be affected by these provisions, we feel you have a right to know them prior to accepting a job. Accepting a position with CYO indicates your willingness to fully comply with these policies throughout the summer camp season. Immediate action will be taken for violation of these rules.

NOTIFICATION OF EMPLOYMENT: We will attempt to notify all applicants of our decision within three to four weeks of your interview. There are many applicants for few positions.
